General David Mckiernan, the Commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, will step down.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced May 11 that the Commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan General David Mckiernan, will step down. Gen. David D. McKiernan, will be replaced as commander by Lt. Gen. Stanley McChrystal, he is expected to aggressively overhaul the war effort.
